We're
moved in!
32s
Teton Ranchettes Victor, Idaho
On
August 1, 2002. we officially moved into our new house...although
not completely finished with construction, we all appreciated
the 3,800 square feet of living space and the cool temperature
that the energy-efficient concrete walls offered us. The entire
house, built by ourselves, Spencer Svete, and a whole crew of
friends and various professionals, took just over one year from
ground-breaking until completion.
The
house is three stories and includes a partially finished basement.
It's constructed of ICF blocks which are hollow, Styrofoam blocks
filled with concrete. It is also the tallest house in this valley
built using this system (to date).
The
roof is made from SIP panels which are factory-made wood panels,
which literally sandwich a piece of 12" thick Styrofoam,
and are cut according to roof plans. The combination of the thick
Styrofoam roof and 12" thick walls give us an energy-rating
of about R40 and an almost soundproof house.
All
windows, excluding basement, are wooden, aluminum-clad double-hungs.
We have one set of French-style patio doors, one extra-wide wooden
front door (pictured here), a walkout basement door and a glass-paned
mudroom door. Two bedrooms, one bath and a family room comprise
the basement. Ground-level is completely wheelchair accessible
and where Skye's bedroom and the main living areas which includes
kitchen, dining, living rooms, mudroom and our shared office/studio
space. The master bedroom, walk-in closet and master bath are
the upper-level.
